University of Toronto Press (UTP) and the Cervantes Society of America (Society) are delighted to announce that they have formed a partnership for the publication of Cervantes: Journal of the Cervantes Society of America (Cervantes). UTP publishes a world-renowned Toronto Iberic list of monographs, which has fostered a history of collaboration between the UTP and the Society. Of the twelve Toronto Iberic series books that UTP published in 2022, for instance, four of them were authored by Society members. Cervantes is a natural fit within UTP’s much-celebrated catalogue of scholarly journals. With 120 years of academic publishing experience, UTP will amplify Cervantes’ reputation for scholarly excellence and attract new readers and submissions within a wider North American and global audience. Adding Cervantes to its collection also accords with UTP’s mission to advance the growth and sustainability of scholarly journals.
“UTP has published an exceptionally robust Iberic studies list for some time,” says Antonia Pop, Vice-President of Publishing at UTP. “We are honored that the Board of the Cervantes Society of America entrusted us to represent their flagship journal. We are excited to further Cervantes’s legacy for distributing landmark research and encouraging exploration of the golden age of Spanish literature. Cervantes adds to the extraordinary richness of the books and journals in literary studies that we provide to readers and researchers around the world!” – Antonia Pop, Vice-President of Publishing at UTP
Cervantes is a peer-reviewed, academic, semi-annual journal dedicated to the study of Miguel de Cervantes’s life and works. It provides a platform for rigorous scholarly articles and notes in English or Spanish that offer diverse critical perspectives on the author’s literary, cultural, and historical contexts. In addition to showcasing original research, the journal also features book reviews of interest to Cervantes scholars. This inclusive focus will continue to be utilized as the journal’s editorial guide. As part of this partnership, UTP will begin publishing Cervantes with volume 44 in 2024. The issue will be accessible on any device, making content more accessible to digital researchers. Content will also be optimized to increase searchability. Cervantes’s stature amongst the wider scholarly community will benefit from its alignment with UTP’s renowned Toronto Iberic series, their international reach, and their attendance at all leading academic and library conferences.
“We’re proud to be working with UTP on Cervantes, says Mercedes Alcalá Galán, President of the Cervantes Society of America. “The depth and scope of UTP’s Iberic series list is a testament to how they understand, appreciate, and above all, share many of the concerns that unite our scholarly network. That sense of mutual trust is essential for us, as Cervantes is a touchstone for ‘Cervantistas’ around the world. The UTP partnership will provide the journal with an enhanced digital presence. There’s no doubt that being part of UTP’s collection of books and journals will improve Cervantes’s global reach. We look forward to the next steps on what promises to be an exciting journey.” -Mercedes Alcalá Galán, President of the Cervantes Society of America
