Congratulations to IJCS Contributor Dr. Gillian Roberts

March 11, 2014

Congratulations to Dr. Gillian Roberts who has been awarded the 2014 Pierre Savard Award for best monograph on a Canadian topic for her book Prizing Literature. The Pierre Savard Awards are designed to recognize and promote each year outstanding scholarly monographs on a Canadian topic. The awards form part of a strategy that is aimed at promoting, especially throughout the Canadian academic community, works that have been written by members of the Canadian Studies international network. The awards are intended to designate exceptional books, which, being based on a Canadian topic, contribute to a better understanding of Canada.

In addition to her book, Dr. Roberts is also a recent contributor to volume 48 of the International Journal of Canadian Studies. Her article, “The Book of Negroes’ Illustrated Edition: Circulating African-Canadian History through the Middlebrow”, examines the 2009 deluxe illustrated edition of Lawrence Hill’s Commonwealth Writers’ Prize– and Canada Reads–winning novel, also now an Oscar award-winning film. Congratulations on all your success Dr. Roberts!
